Dusty pinks, pale seagreens, cobalt and cream are layered to create a landscape filled with mystery and a story. This particular painting challenges and surprises at every view as new layers and details are revealed.

This is the third painting in the series 'Flying High', inspired by views from above, whether from sketches made along treks across icy mountain ranges or flying above the world watching cities and towns pass by beneath us.

The sun rose behind the Himalayas as we prepared to start the trek for basecamp. The reflection in the lake mirrored the beauty of the mountains although I felt a sense of trepidation at the journey to come. Inspiration is always found at the highest peak, flying over rivers by plane or sketching the city below from the tallest church steeple or spire. Trekking through the mountains above Pokhara was no exception.

Layers of cobalt blue, pink and dove grey pigment convey an atmosphere of calm and peace, a sense of place which we all search for in times of stress and uncertainty. Lines of pastel and graphite weave between these layers providing direction and movement with each unveiling a new story and details. They are also the lines of our path, travels through mountains and valleys to reach our dreams.
